23/09/2007 24Hour Party People…
Its Sunday afternoon now and I have just sat down to write a quick re-cap of my 1st hk weekend. Friday at work was really good, sat down properly with my team to have a in-depth briefing of the company and my role at CFL… feeling a whole lot better now about what is expected of me etc. I am also loving learning about the company. For those who do not know about my job I shall give you a quick intro!... CFL are a supply chain vendor, so say you are a clothing company and you have your designs and need to get them manufactured then you could contact CFL. Our different departments would then take you through then entire process to get your collection made, from fabric selection and manufacture (finding fabric suppliers etc) through to sample production (pattern cutting and fit tech dept), sourcing factories and making sure they meet the companies compliance requirements and also quality control, production and shipping etc etc!
The department I work for (operations) oversee all of these individual departments and identify any problems and propose solutions to solve these probs. We also make sure all departments are working with each other and adhering to standard procedures etc.
As part of my 1st year I shall be working 3month periods with different departments to gain a detailed insight into their daily operations and feed insider info back to my team!!
After work on Friday I went to watch a basketball match between CFL and Standard life bank.,,we lost by 1 point!! Did lots of cheering and chanting with these bizarre sausage shaped balloons that you blow up and bang together too produce a clanging noise!! After this I went for a Thai dinner with Celina and Angel. I really like the Asian culture of ordering many dishes and placing them in the middle for everyone to share. Then we went to a popular nightspot on HK Island for drinks, which then turned into a club and more drinks! Needless to say it was a messy night! I didn’t get home until 7am!!!! I had so much planned for Saturday, was going to explore the touristy areas and do some shopping…however that has been postponed until next week now because I had to sleep all day long! Not long after I got up Helen (the girl I met on the plane) called me to arrange another night out! I was just about to make some instant noodles when she asked if I had eaten and did I fancy a Malaysian curry instead…not a difficult choice!
Met Helen last night in Central and headed for a street she has nicknamed ‘Rat Alley’ it was small, crowded and a bit crazy with restaurant touts everywhere trying to tempt you into their eatery. We had an eggplant and chickpea curry with rice and a traditional Tsang Tso’ lager (think that is what it is called?!) …I’m not a lager drinker but it was sooo nice! After that headed out to meet her friend Richard and we wnet on a bit of a bar/cocktail crawl… fav cocktail of the night was the mango cosmo, or maybe the mixed berry mojito, or maybe the chmpagne bellini…hmmm!! It got to about 2am and I decided that I had to go home, although it looked as if the party was just getting started!
Long lazy sleep again (after a few drunken skype calls!) and now I am waiting in for the internet technician to arrive to hook up my internet properly, cant wait!!! Im am going to transfer to the sofa shortly to watch some random television and read through my work notes (because you all know how much of a boffin I am!). I feel like I havn’t really covered everything in enough detail for you all, especially the description of places and smells etc etc… Im never going to become a writer me thinks!! (plus I have a 2day hangover!)
Tomorrow, now that my Chinese work visa has cleared, im heading across the border into mainland china to see the Shenzhen office where I will be working and also have some flat viewings lined up so hopefully will be all settled in soon!
Chat soon,
Love me xx
