Had a friend from the Uk with his girlfriend visit me in Shenzhen en route to their big trip (London> Quindao> Beijing> Thailand> Macau> HK> London... in 2weeks!). They had a hairy moment at the Huaangang border crossing, which is notoriously full of dodgers - so its a good job Im a hard ass lol. They wandered off a wee bit looking for the taxi rank and ended up getting swamped by the dodgy unlicenced drivers touting for business, who told them they didnt know my address and it would cost them 100RMB (its a 10 minute journey from the border and the max I have ever paid is 25RMB). After phoning me I told them to get back to the licenced rank before they got stabbed and/or mugged (eek) and then the drivers started demanding cash for having their time wasted?!!
Luckily they managed to escape unharmed and we promptly went straight to the pub for plenty of beer!
Looking fwd to seeing them again on the return leg of their journey.
