14/05/2009 - Shameless Name Dropping
So, as you do, I went for dinner with Martina Navratilova twice this week.
(Id like to point out that this was due to association, rather than being of any importance, that I wound up sat at a table with the tennis legend)
Now, if I'm going to shamelessly and publicly name drop on the bloggy blog I feel I should first and foremost plug and promote.
Martina has come to the big Hk for the Art HK exhibition which has just kicked off this week.
Martina collaborates with the artist Juro Kralik to create tennis based art. Juro is the creative director, and under his direction Martina physically realises the vision (See www.artgrandslam.org for more info and examples of their work).
They are here in association with the Sovereign Arts Foundation, which is a charitable organisation which supports and promotes Asian artists, whilst also supporting other worthy charitable causes through their annual competition and charity auction. (www.sovereignartfoundation.com).
But what did you think?? I hear you ask... It is not art to my personal taste nor something I would choose to hang on my wall -(because of course I have oodles of cash just lying around to splash on art, and oodles of space in my gigantic apartment to display it, and I'm also a well researched thoroughly educated art critic don't you know)- But I did like the concept very much (except for the more abstract pieces which did just look like they had dipped a tennis ball in paint and lobbed it at a canvas), I imagine Martina and tennis fans worldwide would be thrilled to own a piece from the Art Grand Slam collection.
Dinner (following a promo event during which SnT hosted an interview, which I proudly observed - from the bar, it was the best vantage point honest!)was a fabulously local Chinese restaurant with good local grub, never ending beer served in bowls, entertaining service, and the obligatory duck head.
Then last night a much more up market affair, following the duos live creation at Art HK's launch night.
Im hoping to go back soon to the Art HK exhibition for a proper gander... watch this space.
Lots of love
Tx
