17/08/2009 - Saving Nemo
I have a tale of salvation and terrible sorrow to share with you all concerning the weekends events:
Upon my journey through the streets of Hk I stumbled across a random heap of discarded shizzle on the street (not uncommon here). Imagine my horror as I got closer to discover some horrible human being had thrown out a fish tank with a singular poor little fish still in it!
The little fella was lurking in the corner looking miserably resigned to its fate to be slowly boiled to death in what little water was left in the tank under the relentless tropical sunshine.
I immediately enlisted the guns of SnT (the tank was friggin enormous) to consult upon the fish's fate. The verdict was unanimous - we must rescue Nemo !!
Not an easy task, since the entire tank and associated shizzle had been dumped. We had to disentangle all the mystery wires and components, and then lug the gigantic tank up to its new location.
5 hours, a lot of confusion, and eventual success later, we had a clean, working tank for Nemos new home from home.
The next day we embarked on a journey to Tung Choi street, THE street for all pet related bits n bobs.
From a photo we took with us, we were informed that Nemo was in fact an African Fighting Fish, and although currently black in colour, once he was over the trauma of his near death experience he would regain his original white and electric blue markings.
African fighting fish need to be placed only with other feisty fish of their variety, so wanting to bring back some friends for Nemo, we were advised to purchase some African Cichlids fish. We purchased 10, and some hidy hole rock structures / adventure playgrounds for fish, and headed back in a flurry of excitement.
Newly placed in the tank, the inquisitive new inhabitants explored their new terrain.
Best of all, Nemo emerged from his corner to reveal the return of some of his beautiful markings.
We high fived and congratulated one another on our rescue mission, pleased with our good deed of the day.
A mere few hours later we would not be so smug....
Waiting until our backs were turned, the new fish 'friends' revealed their true identity in our absence.
They were in fact a brutal gang of fish MURDERERS!!
I write with a mournful tone to inform you bloggage readers that this tale of salvation does not in fact have a happy ending...
Tragic
R.I.P Nemo
