So I normally dont post the details of hotels I stay in as that would get quite repetative and boring but thought Id make an exception for this one I stayed in Dongmen. Was expecting a skank hole to be honest, but it was really lovely! Dongmen has seen a lot of factories in the area and as a result the local economy has been boosted. I was told that a house costing 40,000 RMB 10 years ago can now be sold for 4 MILLION RMB !!!
Still, the cost of living by western (and also Hk) standards is exceptionally low. I stayed in a 4star hotel (inc breakfast) for 290 RMB... thats approx 20pounds! Additionally, just across the road was a fake dvd shop where I spotted season 1-5 of 24 for only 150 RMB (10pounds!!!!!). I bought a tonne of dvds, made a vow never to shop in HMV again, and prayed that I wouldnt get stopped at customs (eek!).
