05/11/2007 The Shame & Spooky the Shrimp...

On the agenda today: A weekend re-cap for you lucky people

1st of all wanted to share with you the hilarious cartoon dad sent me... laughed so hard when I opened my post -quick tangent.. that post took 2weeks to reach me in Shenzhen so if you need to send anything send it to my HK office instead and they will transfer it internally.. not that anyone has sent anything apart from dad sending me bills! So yes back to the cartoon.. my mailbox is in the lobby and I was stood quite close to the doorman when I opened it, I showed him what was making me laugh so much but the concept was completely lost on him which made it even funnier to me!

The title of my blog today refers to shame of two weekend events, the first is bowling. I have stupidly been investing quite some time into boasting about my bowling abilities… to the point where it was becoming more and more obvious that it would backfire on me! However I feel a comment here from James/Barney/Oli/Doyley et al would help verify my claims to greatness!

So to begin with the very first bowl resulted me in slipping in those stupidly unfashionable shoes and hurting my knee (see pic!) So as you can see my performance was hindered by my gruesome injuries, I am too ashamed to admit my PATHETIC first game score (worst in history) but the 2nd one was a more respectable 103… still way below par and yes, I did lose, and yes I didn’t take it well!

Saturday night I met up with Helen and we ventured to this tiny tucked away Spanish restaurant for tapas with her friends… It was my first western meal since I got here! It was so bizarre to be sat around a table full of British people with knives and forks, havn’t done that since I got here. Food and company were lovely and the highlight was trying Octopus (bit spicy)… but I do have to admit that I did miss my chopsticks!

After dinner I headed out to Lan Kwai Fong to meet the guys I went on the boat trip with a couple of weekends ago. Queenie works in PR for clubs/bars and got us into the guestlist of a swanky club in HK… once inside she ushered us into the VIP section where we were handed free Dom Perignon Rose champagne! You can just imagine how the evening unfolded after that… Tanya + free champagne = BIG MESS! Thank goodness I didn’t take my camera this weekend to capture the true shame of my drunkenness! I woke up on Sunday with the most enormous hangover… damn it why do all the best things in life make you feel bad afterwards?!

Sunday was nice and chilled, went to a BBQ … I think that Duncan was expecting at least 1000 famine ridden street urchin children by the looks of how much food was being cooked, jeez never seen so much quantity / variety in BBQ food. It put the British ‘few sausages, burgers and a salad’ version to shame!

Also at the weekend I met the creature you can see in the picture, half chiuawa dog, and half shrimp in disguise.. not convinced? Then let me point out the boogly eyes and shrimpy-esque legs! He is called Sparky and Mike is looking after him for a friend.. he nicknamed him Spooky so now I think the poor thing is a bit confused!

What else to tell you… oh yes, crazy Chinese insano man was stood waiting for me in the lobby this morning and started rabbiting away in Chinese to me… now normally I am quite accommodating to insanos but I was suffering a 3day hangover on a Monday so was a bit rude and tried to walk off at super fast stomping pace. Being an insano however, this did not deter him one bit and he just ran alongside me whilst talking away and kept throwing the English sentence into the (one sided) conversation ‘I will come to your office’… I was like woah, um no you won’t mr, what the..?!!

Luckily bumped into a work colleague as Mr Asian Insano was preparing to follow me into the lift. Kent speaks English so translated for me, turns out Mr AI has recently purchased some new wine and did I want to try it with him in his apartment…. Ummmm…. (let me think about this one)…. NO!! Asked Kent to inform Mr AI that I defo was NOT interested… cant believe I have found myself a Roger Mc’dodger (my crazy English stalker) all the way out in Asia!... Im going to do a survey as to why I am such an appealing target to weirdos!

So it is bonfire evening in the UK tonight, I enquired here and there is no such thing here at all, they have never even heard of it so no fireworks for me!
Debbie & Noel arrived in HK this afternoon and I have a mid week dinner scheduled with them mid week followed by another weekend of partying I imagine!

I probably have lots more to say…see what happens when you give me unlimited conversational space without interruptions! But I will bore you no longer.

Until next time my attentive readers… miss you and lots of love
Tx
