15/05/2008 - The dangerous perils of China Life Part 2

In a taxi heading for the border... need I say more. I have explained on a number of occassions the Chinese's disregard for rules of the road, their thirst for speed, and near collosions that seem to excite them! Well my latest taxi ride was no exception. On a whirlwind break neck speedy journey to the border we ran a red light, turned a corner too quickly, nearly crashed into an oncoming bus (cue heart attack central), grinded the side of the car against the central road barriers, and then took off again like we were competing in a game of grand theft auto!
In a 50/50 mood of being really quite huffy about the poor driving skills, and really quite scared about the poor driving skills I promptly exited the vechile and proceeded on foot... Id like to say much safer, but that area of Sz at that time of day is not really somewhere you want to be loitering around, esp if you are hobbling along loaded down with bags like buckaroo.
So anyway, crossed the border and left behind the crazy land that is China. On the train to Hk my journey was further fraught with danger when a tiny frail little old lady lost her balance on the train, completely stacked it and banged her head against my knee! It left me pondering that eternal question... is it just me?!
