Enlisted to assist my friend find a wedding dress for her big day, we both discovered that westerners (us) and the Chinese wedding dress stockists of HK have a clearly different view on what constitutes a beautiful gown. We endured several stressful hours as the only 2 westerners in sight at an amusing Wedding Expo in Wanchai this weekend.

Dress wanted: Plain, simple, classic, elegant. Nice non shiny white satin fabric, no embellishments.
Dresses on offer: Frilly, volumous, layered, extravagant, colourful NIGHTMARES that the bead and sequin fairy had clearly puked all over.

The idea of no beading or shimmer shiny fabric was an alien concept to many (waahh... no beading la? but it will look ugly!!) and thus our quest continues for a suitable tailor to help make her dream dress come true.
