26/04/2011 - Lanvin for Lane Crawford

I got a brucie bonus surprise seeing that LC had dressed two additional windows with my illustrations. I did these sketches for their "Create & Inspire" mag and had no idea that they had used them in-store :)

In the mag they asked me: How would you like your work to inspire others?

"I like to create gourmet food for the eyes, rich in aesthetic gratification, with a dollop of delightfully sinful self indulgence on the side. Thus, I hope that I inspire others to pause every once in a while to appreciate the beautiful things in life, just because...."

And here is one more illustration I did just purely due to shoe lust (Louboutin, how I love thee)

02/01/2011 1920s Shanghai @ China Club

Some pics from my nye... I had resolutely decided that I would stay in, enjoy my quiet self indulgent weekend of trashy dvds and fat foods. But at the last minute cinderella styley was persuaded to don some party shoes and go drink my liver into oblivion to celebrate the end of a decade.

Hope you all had as much fun as I did. Let me know your resolutions. I have one simple wish for the year ahead (well ok it's three all rolled into one because Im greedy):

To see new places, eat new foods, and laugh as MUCH as possible

Hugs all round

21/10/2010 - Ambassadors of Design Exhibition

Remember I did a painting for this:

Well it will be exhibited, along with other paintings and chairs at the end of this month at the InnoCentre

05/10/2010 - Random: Stats

Not being that technologically gifted, I just worked out that there is a function to view your 'blog traffic statistics' and got to say I'm a bit surprised by the results.

Firstly, the largest majority of my visitors are from United States which is extremely odd considering that I fully expect that my random blog ramblings are only ever read by immediate family members.

I was enlightened on the reason for this, and simultaneously dismayed that this was likely due to a post I added last year entitled 'leg herpes' (mosquito attack incident), therefore generating a large number of people accidentally routed to here instead of finding a Google solution to their most likely gross and embarrassing personal health issues.

Glad to know (sarcastic disappointed in oneself tone) the best I can offer in the blog-sphere is related to icky diseases.

Ambassador of Design Ball 2010

Ambassador of Design (AOD) collective, with the aim of "raising awareness of design and creativity in the city" hosted the AOD annual ball last night (Sept 16).

The intriguing theme this year was chairs, and various international renowned designers such as Zaha Hadid, Kelly Hoppen, Thomas Heatherwick partook by providing visually stimulating chairs for auction on the night.

In addition, an open submission competition called the Open Academy was held. Based on the long-running 120-year old London Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the AOD invited Hong Kong-ers from all fields to design their own interpretation of a chair that would plaster the walls, forming a collage that will be the backdrop of the ball.

Thus my entry of creepy doris with giant hand (chair in background) in below post.

Some fantastic paintings (i honestly did think there would be wider variation in the interpretation of the theme, but then my thought processes have not always necessarily proven to be rational or sensible). -And some amazing actual chairs. One of the chairs was auctioned off for HK$650k !!

The handsome manfriend was suited and booted, looking all dashing and professional as the evenings MC extraordinaire. Tip of the hat to the man for keeping control of an escalating raucous crowd of fabulous people, and for helping to raise so much mulah.

Anyways, some quickly snapped shots - excuse the fuzziness (and bizarrely shiny forehead), new phone I dont quite understand yet -not due to the suspected alcohol consumption honest ;)
Hopefully will get some of the real deal photos to share soon.

Have a great weekend people!

03/09/2010 - Small Update & Excuses

Im VERY aware of the fact that I am 3 doris's behind on my doris a day's for August .

Blaming it entirely on my 30 day detox coming to an end and the (beautiful) devil in disguise that is my friend Kate cheekily leading me into the tempestuous path of RETOX instead of sending my ass home to work.

And those damn bubbles, using their flirtatious fizzyness to lure me into a cunning trap of believing I can dance like a godess (i cannot) and defy the laws of sleep (also not true). How I fell for its cleverly disguised lies...
This:

Became:

Hangovers are not cool people
They suck serious ass

And they also flick a shut down switch on my pencil powers. So instead of working I do lot of staring aimlessly out of windows, and concocting ridiculous champagne scribbles...:

Will knuckle down at the weekend.
Virtual slaps and shakes of the head are meekly accepted.

28/08/2010 - Paint chaos

Apologies that all recent blogs have been art related, Im sure you are all missing my drunken shenanigan stories, but I have been buried in my paints and on detox

This is how Im spending all my spare time right now:

Paintings to follow...

26/08/2010 - Random fact of the day

My fear of cotton wool has a name:
Bambakomallophobia

Bet you can sleep easy tonight now that you know that.

Bambakomallophobia is the phobia of cotton wool when touched, ripped apart or sometimes just on sight. A phobia (from the Greek ᅬニᅬフᅫ봬﾿ᅬツ "Phobos" meaning Fear), is an irrational, intense, persistent fear of certain situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made. In the case of Bambakomallophobia the sufferer will experience symptoms from a mild unwillingness to touch or tear cotton wool apart to the fear of even touching it. The name of the phobia is derived from the Greek for cotton, ᅫ봬뫠퇘봷ᅫ쵀ᄍ (Bambaki) and wool ᅫ퇘뫠쾌쾚(malli)

16/08/2010 - Plastic Oceans

SnT's will be shortly working on a new project: Plastic Oceans.

Encouraging all to go check out the website, some scary facts.

An important topic, very much worth bringing to peoples attention.

Will keep you all updated. Weblink:
http://www.plasticoceans.net/

- We are currently producing 300 million tonnes of plastic per year – about half of this will be used just once and thrown away.
- Annually approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. More than one million bags are used every minute.
- A plastic bag has an average “working life” of 15 minutes.
- In the US alone, 60 million plastic bottles are thrown away every day.
- Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.

13/08/2010 - Cockroach ATTACK

Last night I narrowly escaped the cruel clutches of a conniving cockroach, intent on making a nest for its baby eggs in my inner ear canal, which would in time hatch and bury a tunnel into my BRAIN which would then rupture in an atomic bomb of ugly ass cockroach infants and grey matter !!!

Let me share my terrifying tale...

I was snuggled up in bed with the man, freshly laundered sheets, fan blowing a cool gentle breeze across the room, on the pleasantly dizzy cusp of dreamland about to be whisked off by the sleep fairies for a magical twilight adventure....

WHEN CAPT COCKROACH MADE HIS DEADLY SHOCK N AWE ATTACK

Cunningly disguised at first as a small hair tickle, my sleepy slumber state was soon replaced by HIGH ALERT after it fast became apparant that something alien was charging for the sacred earhole!!!

Luckily the man is semi growing a beard and is therefore hard core - like rambo - and leaped upon the scary beast with his bare hands, blocking the statanic bugs route of retreat and capturing it in a small transparent prison cell. (my hero) for we shall not leap the depths of its kind, and shall spare its insect life as an example to others....

Bluuuughghhh!

30/07/2010 - Doris a day

I have set myself a pencil challenge to get the creative juices flowing.
To draw (and/or paint) and post one new scribble a day for every day in August.

I am detoxing for the next 30days (a Hong Kong necessity) and thus, I am unable to excuse any procrastination on the consequences of drunken misbehaviour.

Plus Im stupendously stubborn, so usually do what I threaten.

Ive made the executive decision that this shall be a double pronged attack, where each sketch shall be based on the word of the day (via dictionary.com). Thus giving my pencil a workout, and extending my vocabulary - Eliza Dolittle styley.

Watch this space

13/07/10 - Shiny New Eyes!

after months of complaints from SnT about having to read the subtitles on tv for me out loud, coupled with the fact that I missed the bus the other day because I couldn't read the number (!) I decided to succumb and get myself some glasses.
OMG, the difference is incredible... I cant believe Ive lived without them for so long!

Quick cheeky pic taken on my laptop ... geek chic rocks
